I mean the title of this post is pretty self explanatory really. Life doesn’t stop when we are sick – boo! – and shit still needs to get done so here is my makeup routine for those days when I need to cover up the fact that I look & feel like that troll from Chamber of Secrets. Boogers and all. Like today for example!
// PREPARATION IS KEY //
Your makeup is only going to look as good as your skin and unfortunately when we are sick we are at a major disadvantage. Our nose is bright enough to make Rudolph jealous, our skin is parched & flakey; and more often than not my eyes will be stinging and watering like crazy. So where do we go from here? Hydration baby. Wash your face with some water, throw on your fave moisturiser – I love the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Moisturiser – and face your fears and throw in some eye drops to help keep those weepy tears at bay. For a little extra TLC on my nose I also like to pat a little bit of paw paw ointment on there as well.
// BASE //
Okay, so our base is pretty much as hydrated as it possibly can be. Now we bring in the makeup. Try and steer clear of your heavy duty Nikkie Tutorials-esque foundations and go for something super lightweight like a tined moisturiser or a CC/BB cream and pop that on your face keeping the tip of your nose bare – with all of the sniffing, sneezing, wiping & blowing your makeup is going to rub off there anyway and the product will just end up clinging to dry patches. No thanks babe. A great CC cream for days like this is the Bourjois 123 Perfect CC cream for a lightweight but decent coverage that lasts all day.
// BROWS & EYES //
As for actual makeup on a sick day I would say that your brows and eyes are the essentials. In fact, you could totally skip the whole base section if you’re reaaally struggling. Simply fill in your brows to the way you like them and set! The Glossier Boy Brow would be perrrrf to save time and effort otherwise use whatever you normally pick up and go to town! Once you have filled in or set your brows to the way you like it Curl your lashes (optional but make such a difference) and throw on your best waterproof mascara. Viola! The easiest and most minimal steps are done!
Chuck on a little bit of lip balm and you are ready to tackle the day ahead! With a few coughs and sneezes here and there of course.
Until next time,
Love, Angela xx.
