Growing up I never really appreciated the difference between a house and a home. In fact it wasn’t until I was 19 and I had moved out with my dad into a rental that I truely noticed the difference. It was just furniture between walls, thats it. No little personal touches or cozy corners, it just felt sterile and I just never truly felt at home there, so ever since then I have always made sure to style my house to make it feel warm and inviting and homely.
So I figured I would put together a list with a few easy little things that you can do to make your house a home with some inspirational pics I’ve sourced from Pinterest! Whether you are in your forever home, a rental or just your bedroom it’s always nice to have your own space that you feel totally at ease in!
Add some personal touches
Possibly the easiest way to make your house your home is to add some personal touches – whether it’s by putting up some photos in frames on your desk or displaying a cute little DIY project, let your house be an expression of your personality. Just be careful it doesn’t end up looking like clutter.
PS. How freaking cute are those curtain hooks?! I just HAD to show them!
Surely adding some greenery to your home makes sense right!? Even if you don’t have a green thumb or you just simply can’t maintain the upkeep of indoor plants go grab some cute fake ones from Kmart. If you do opt for real indoor plants you really can’t go wrong with a maidenhair fern, succulents or even a little cyclamen pot.
Soften it up with throws & pillows
Don”t be too neat or fussy with this one, but I am a firm believer that pretty much every couch or bed could do with some throw pillows or a throw blanket. Not only will it will make the room seem more inviting and softer, but it will give your guest something to throw over their legs while cozied up on the couch.
Door Matts & Rugs
Oftenly overlooked is the importance of a cute welcome door matt and a few rugs in the house, especially if you have hardwood floors. I LOVE the cheeky little slogan door matts like the one pictured but you could go for something for more demure and subtle.
Let there be light!
Possibly the biggest tip I could have for you is to let as much light in to your room as possible. Trust me. The room will appear larger and your mood will be so much more relaxed. obviously there are times of the day and evening where you won’t be able to get much light in, so go grab a little lamp or throw up some fairy lights to add a little magic to your room and to change over into cozy mode.
Until next time,
Love, Angela xx.
