When witches go riding and black cats are seen, the moon laughs and whispers ’tis near Halloween.
You guys guess what today is… The first of October! Which means Halloween is here!! Well technically it’s not until the end of the month but it is totally acceptable to start going a little bit bonkers over pumpkins, cauldrons, witches and all sorts of Halloween mischief!
I separated these movies into family friendly/ not so scary picks and actual crap your pants scary films because if you’re going to be crazy enough to sit through an actual scary movie it might as well be on Halloween haha.
So grab your popcorn and your boo (see what I did there?) and cozy up with my list of movies to watch this Halloween!
A childhood classic with Hollywood greats Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica-Parker and Kathy Najimy that you surely can’t miss full of witches with hats, broomsticks, zombies, black cats, cauldrons and all of the magic you would expect.
Plus if you’re a NCIS fan keep an eye out for a young suave looking McGee!
The best way to describe Practical Magic is that it is a fairy tale for grown ups, and whilst I’m not the biggest fan of Nicole Kidman or most of her flicks, I will happily make an exception for this. Paired with Sandra Bullock and a few other recognisable faces, people of all ages would enjoy this for its core values of family, friendship and love but also for its magic!
(PS. You could definitely call this a romance movie too)
Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, BEETLEJUICE!
In my opinion any Tim Burton film could definitely be passed as the perfect Halloween flick – take Sweeney Todd, The Corpse Bride, Edward Scissor Hands or Beetlejuice for example!
I’m sure you have all heard of, or seen Casper the friendly ghost, however if you haven’t now is the perfect time to!
A nostalgic favourite!
I’m sure that I really don’t need to give you an excuse to watch any of the Harry Potter movies that are full of witchcraft & wizardry, but if I did then Halloween would be it!
This might be a hit or miss for some because it is quite different to anything else out, but I really do see this flick as a work of art. Also, how wicked would it be to dress up as the Goblin King!!
This is one of my favourite scary films! It follows a writer that moved into a house with a killer history. I won’t give too much away but i’ll link the trailer here. Highly recommend!
What is probably the scariest thing about this movie, is that if we were to have a day where no crime is off-limits it would definitely be like this. More of a thriller than a horror, the purge is a real good one. I’m not really a fan of the sequels so you could probably give those a miss but the first is ace if your after something to keep you on the edge of your seat.
I remember watching this for the first time as a young teenager at my friends gingerbread-esque house – no seriously, it literally looks like something from a fairy tale – and instantly falling in love with it. It has such a great twist to the end which I won’t give away, but if you’re into movies that are about the dead, or spirits and ghosts then this could definitely be something you like.
