Once upon a time when I was a little girl, I used to believe in magic. I remember praying every single night that I would meet fairies and Peter Pan would come and fly me away to Neverland.
Looking back at it know I can only hope that one day my children believe in fairies and elves just as much as I did, because I truly believe it has had such an integral role in how I look at life as an adult. I still believe in magic, maybe not the same kind as what I once did, but in the magic that the people and places around us can bring.
So I thought I would share with you 10 ways to add a little magic into your day!
Walk barefoot on some freshly cut grass and stop to smell the roses, literally.
There is something so refreshing and magical to letting your feet press on the soft grass as if I were a child again, and taking the time to stop and appreciate all of the different sounds and smells in nature could be exactly what you need.
When I moved out of home and into a cozy little unit, I didn’t realise just how much I missed having a garden, so much so that when I went to visit my mum my first comment would always be about how lovely the garden smells. It’s the little things that are easy to take for granted, so it’s nice to stop and appreciate them once in a while.
Throw a picnic!
Don’t be fooled, picnics are not just for little children. My friends and I recently went for a picnic where we threw down some blankets on the grass and laughed till our stomachs hurt, all while indulging on strawberries dipped in chocolate, salad rolls and of course fairy bread (a classic childhood throwback).
Visit somewhere new!
You don’t need to purchase an expensive plan ticket to go somewhere new, just go exploring in your town! Maybe there’s a lovely little homestead tucked away or a maze that you and some friends or children could visit? Adventure awaits, and it’s always a lovely surprise to discover a hidden gem just around the corner.
You can read about my latest local find here.
Throw yourself a bubble bath!
Better yet, add in a bath bomb from lush and put yourself in for a lovely night of relaxing. Watch as the bath bomb dissolves, changing the water to all different colours just as if you were creating your very own potion. Wind down and relax in it, close your eyes and listen to some soothing music and let yourself wander away from anything that’s on your mind.
Look at the stars!
Ah yes, being told to go and look at the stars may be cliché but why not gaze at the very stars that have inspired centuries of magic and stories. See what you can find and just imagine the endless possibilities of what is out there in the universe that we are yet to discover!
Read your horoscope!
You don’t need to believe in horoscopes but sometimes it’s fun to see what people think will come into or out of your life based on the stars! Have a giggle, or try to find something from it to inspire you – I mean if you’ve been following these steps then you’ve just spent part of your night looking up and out at them so why not see what they have to say?
Read a book!
People say time travel doesn’t exist, but I beg to differ.
It has existed for centuries and centuries between the ink and paper pages of stories and novels. Immerse yourself in a new book and let yourself dive into the world of the characters you are reading about. I am currently reading The Duchess by Danielle Steele (here) and I’m loving it, but you could find anything that takes your interest!
CREATE AN INSPIRATION BOARD!
My mum was told once that if you hang up a cork board and pin things that are close to your heart, or wish for and look at it every day it will come true. Ever since then we have had a giant cork board in our laundry with origami we made growing up and post cards of places she had always dreamed of visiting.
Whether or not you believe this cork board will actually make those dreams come true, let it serve as inspiration and motivation to reach those goals and make your dreams come true on your own!
Have your palm read!
Go grab your friend and have your palm read to see what will supposedly happen in your future! Once again, you don’t have to believe in it completely, but wouldn’t it be interesting to see one and think back in 20 years time and some of it has actually happened?!
Start a dream journal!
I did this when I was fifteen and it was one of the best things I ever did and even though I don’t do it every day now, I try to write down what I can remember of my dreams every now and then. Your subconscious talks to you in your dreams, sometimes it’s nice to look through and analyze them to see what is really on your mind.
What are your favourite things that add a little magic into your life?
until next time,
Love Angela xx.
